Here’s how to set yourself up for success.

1

Deciding to Apply

As you consider different job openings, we encourage you to be selective and seek those roles that are the best fit for you and the firm.

  • Make sure the move aligns with your long-term career and development goals.
  • Aim for a role that builds on your strengths and transferable skills and sets you up for success in your desired career path.
  • Be realistic, but don’t sell yourself short. Is this a good stretch role? Or is it too far of a leap at this point in your career?
  • Understand the home office grades and compensation philosophy.
  • Discuss with your leader your interest in a specific position and communicate that you will apply; HO leaders are notified once you submit your application to any role, as are FA leaders when applying to an FA role.

On-Demand or Phone Interview

For most Home Office and Branch Office positions, a recruiter will evaluate the qualifications of the internal and external candidates and invite the strongest candidates to participate in a pre-recorded digital and/or telephone interview. This is your opportunity to present your best self, so take some time to familiarize yourself with the interview process and the firm’s digital interview experience.

  • Introduce yourself with a pre-recorded video interview and practice your responses to your digital interview.
  • For interview tips, best practices and help recording video responses, visit the Modern Hire Help Center.
  • Prepare for your phone interview and find out what to expect after you’ve completed your digital and/or phone interview.

“Going through the hiring process for internal opportunities can be an emotional roller coaster. Be patient, give every interviewer your authentic self, interview the interviewer to ensure the role intersects with your ‘why’.”

– Arica Harris, Banking and Payment Operations

Assessments

For certain roles, you may be asked to participate in an assessment process which may include a questionnaire or scenario-based role play.*

What to Expect and How to Prepare

*For Home Office roles, assessments typically precede the live interview. Financial Advisor and BOA assessments follow the live interview.

5

Live Interview

Once you’ve been identified as a leading candidate for a Home Office role, the next step is a live competency-based interview (face-to-face or videoconference) with the hiring leader. The interview process is slightly different for Branch Office positions, and a recruiter will provide more detail.
