Team Overview:
The Corporate Bond Trading Department within Edward Jones is primarily responsible for providing our Financial Advisors with a broad supply of highly diversified and fairly priced corporate bonds that are used to fulfill the unique needs of every one of our more than 8 million clients. Our goal is to identify and analyze opportunities in the marketplace while always seeking to provide the best execution possible on every trade we handle.
As a Trader III in the Corporate Bond Trading Department, expectations are that you would have a passion for capital markets, excellent risk management skills, and be able to make capital commitments with minimal oversight. Additionally, an attention to detail is a must as your decisions can negatively impact our clients, while exposing the firm to significant regulatory, financial, and reputational risk.
What You Will Do:
- Timely and accurately manage the firm’s client retail order flow with corporate bonds in both principal and agency capacities up to specified order and aggregate limits (large levels)
- Manage corporate bond flows across multiple account types, including Brokerage, Investment Advisory, Trust, and UMA – assisting with the ongoing expansion of these programs and their impact on the product line
- Expert ability to manage firm trading capital for both individual security transactions and at the portfolio level up to large limits
- Enhance the suite of corporate bonds that are available for purchase, either from firm inventory or the market more broadly, in accordance to firm guidance
- Expert ability to identify and source liquidity for corporate bonds across a spectrum of liquidity profiles and market conditions
- Expert ability to deploy risk management techniques in all 3 facets of the role consistent with the scope of responsibility, including trading, systems, and regulatory risks
- Expert ability to evaluate and analyze data by applying insights to trading related decisions through coding/reporting tools
- Expert ability to perform all daily trading-related responsibilities, including pricing evaluation, relative value, key ratios, and more
- Expert demonstration of market structure, capital markets analytics, economic variables, and trading strategies
- Expert ability to understand, evaluate and appropriately respond to changing market conditions and industry trends
- Enhance and anticipate best execution (for example, fixed income E/Q equivalent) as well as other firm and industry regulatory requirements
- Expert application of internal and external trading systems and related tools, including testing, troubleshooting, and development where appropriate
- Initiate and own client service excellence enhancements in alignment with human-centered complete wealth management
- Initiate and own operational excellence initiatives to scale the quantity and quality of individual security workflows
- Enhance the depth & breadth of external networks across dealers and vendors that help source supply, manage liquidity, generate market insights, and more
- Enhance the depth and breadth of internal networks across key stakeholders to support trading floor initiatives and align with broader firm efforts
- Develop and coach other traders, including product, service, systems, and regulatory aspects of the role, at the department level
Skills/Requirements
What Experience You Need:
- B.A./B.S. degree in business, economics, finance, or quantitative related field
- SIE, Series 7(Top-Off), and 63/66 required; additional desk specific licenses are required within 6 months (based on corresponding testing windows)
- Successful completion of Trader II responsibilities or equivalent industry experience
- 6+ years of financial service experience required, capital markets preferred
- Expert knowledge of capital markets analytics, trading strategies, and risk management technique
- Expert knowledge of internal and external trading systems and related tools, including, but not limited to, Bloomberg and 3rd party electronic trading platforms
What Could Set You Apart:
- CFP, MBA, CFA, CPA or related designations preferred
*Candidates that live within in a commutable distance from our Tempe, AZ and St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office three days per week, with preference for Tuesday through Thursday.
