[Roger] Let others who can help you know about it– know about what your passions are, know about what your purpose might be. And certainly, let your leader know.
[Roger] I often leaned on mentors– mentors that were close to the work that I did, but also mentors that were really objective, sometimes outside the team, outside the division. And what I found is that they brought such objectivity, and they saw opportunities that I just did not see because I was just so close to things at times.
[Roger] There are so many working groups and committees, which might help you put the work a lot closer to where you want it to be, and start to strengthen the acumen and the skills needed, so that if and when a role in that department or division comes open you’re a lot more well-positioned to get right in there.
