Within WMFM, Investment Management plays a critical role in shaping the firm’s investment offering. The Investment Management department is often described as the firm’s investment engine. This group spans asset allocation, portfolio construction and optimization, manager research, securities research, and other core investment functions that power Edward Jones’ advisory capabilities.
The Investment Risk Group partners closely with Investment Management teams to provide independent risk oversight across portfolios and investment processes. As an Investment Risk Manager, you will contribute directly to the design, construction, and ongoing monitoring of advisory model portfolios, discretionary client accounts, mutual funds, and other investment strategies—ensuring alignment with stated objectives, risk tolerances, and fiduciary standards.
What You Will Do:
- Conduct investment risk research and portfolio construction analysis to align Advisory multi-asset class models, Bridge Builder funds, asset allocation models, and SMA equity portfolios to investment objectives and investment risk framework.
- Provide independent portfolio construction oversight and risk monitoring for Advisory multi-asset class model portfolios, Bridge Builder mutual funds, strategic and tactical asset allocation models, and SMA equity portfolios to ensure alignment with investment goals and risk framework.
- Monitor and support the firm’s derivatives risk management program for Bridge Builder mutual funds and sub‑advisers in compliance with SEC Rule 18f‑4, including risk limit monitoring, reporting, and documentation.
- Contribute to the development, enhancement, and governance of portfolio optimization tools, methodologies, and post‑optimization review processes to ensure advisory client portfolios remain consistent with investment objectives, constraints, and risk parameters.
- Collaborate with team leaders to prepare and present Investment risk research and recommendations to senior leadership for approval.
- Collaborate and contribute to internal departments, committees, and firm-wide strategic initiatives in making better informed decisions consistent with the firm’s long-term strategy
- Deliver effective written and verbal communication of investment risk guidance and optimization analysis to key stakeholders and leadership as needed.
Skills/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or other quantitative subjects. Graduate degree in quantitative discipline or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in portfolio construction, portfolio optimization, or investment risk management, or 7 years’ experience in investment management preferred.
- Demonstrated strong interest in investment risk, portfolio optimization and portfolio construction.
- Progress toward completion of professional designations such as FRM® and/or CFA® strongly preferred.
- FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 licenses required (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate analysis into actionable insights.
- Proficiency with AI, databases, programming languages, and investment risk platforms, including Microsoft Office, R, Python, Tableau, FactSet, Aladdin Risk, MSCI BarraOne, Axioma, Bloomberg, or comparable tools.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with investment professionals across multiple disciplines in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.
What Could Set you Apart:
- Strong knowledge of various types of investments, asset classes, and capital markets.
- Strong understanding of and ability to manage multi-asset portfolio investment risk and/or optimization platform on a day-to-day basis.
- 5 to 7 years’ experience with multi-factor risk models i.e. FactSet, Aladdin, MSCI, Axioma, etc.
- Strong knowledge of portfolio construction, portfolio optimization, and/or portfolio risk management.
- 5 to 7 years’ experience with portfolio optimization platforms i.e. FactSet Axioma, MSCI, Aladdin, etc.
- Strong knowledge of measurement and evaluation techniques for a broad array of investment risks, including market, multi-factor, liquidity, and concentration risks.
- Proficiency in spreadsheets, AI platforms, optimization, and investment risk management systems (FactSet, Aladdin Risk, MSCI Barra One, Axioma, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to communicate ideas and research to investment stakeholders, internal departments, and other areas of the firm.
